MANITOBA MUSINGS: A monument honouring the Ukrainian poet Markian Shashkevych in a Point Douglas park in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Born in 1811, Shashkevych collected Ukrainian folklore, stories and songs and helped to create and publish the Rusalka Dnistrova, the first collection of works exclusively written in the Ukrainian language.

Barber (1869 – 1901) was an English Christian writer who lived in England and wrote under the pseudonym Michael Fairless. Her book, The Roadmender was extremely popular in its time.
